Obituary of Pauline Vincent Compton

MEBANE- Pauline "Polly" Vincent Compton, entered into everlasting life on Tuesday, February 28, 2012 at Duke University Medical Center. Mrs. Compton had been in declining health for the past seven months and had spent the winter months in Winston-Salem with her daughter, Pat. Polly had been involved in community and county activities for many years. She served as a Registrar for the Board of Elections for Carr Precinct for more than 35 years. She served as chairperson for the American Cancer Society, the American Heart Association and the Warren Memorial Clinic in Prospect Hill. She was a member of Mt. Adar Baptist Church where she served as President and other positions of the Women's Missionary Fellowship. In recent years, she attended Cross Road Presbyterian Church, the church she attended before her marriage. Mrs. Compton was born on April 20, 1924 in Alamance County and was the youngest daughter of the late Donald Murray and Florence Blanchard Vincent. She was preceded in death by her husband, Howard Mercer Compton in 1974; her brother: William Wallace Vincent; her sister: Cora Vincent Richmond; and infant son: Donald Edward Compton. She is survived by her daughter: Pat Compton of Winston-Salem; son: Thomas Compton and wife, Trudy Kale Compton of San Diego, CA; sister: Ruth Vincent Copley of Mebane; and grandsons: Andrew Christopher Compton of Tokyo, Japan and Philip Kale Compton of Greenwich Village, New York. The family will receive friends 7 to 9 PM Thursday evening, March 1, 2012 at Walker's Funeral Home of Mebane and other times at the family home. Graveside services will be held at 11:00 AM, Friday, March 2nd at Cross Roads Presbyterian Church Cemetery.
