Efland - Mrs. Pansy Cochran Blalock, 95, of 5305 Hugh Allen Drive, passed away Wednesday, February 22, 2012, at the home of her daughter, Patricia Hill.
A native of the Alarka community in Swain County, she was born March 26, 1916 to Daniel Bryan Cochran and Ila Esther Woody Cochran. She was the widow of Hugh Allen Blalock, who died in 1975,
Pansy lived in Haywood County as a young girl and later raised a family in Durham and Orange Counties. She moved back to Haywood in 1980 and lived with her father and brother, Chester. After their deaths and her own failing health, she came back to Orange County to live with her daughter.
Pansy is survived by her daughter, Patricia Hill, and son, Jerry Blalock (Mazie), both of Efland; 12 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; 17 great-great-grandchildren; two sisters, Jean C. Lanning of Canton and Nell C. Sanford of Southport; one brother, Lane Cochran (Louise) of Canton. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her son, Kenneth Bruce Blalock, grandson, Tony Kenneth Blalock, and brothers Howard and Chester Cochran.
Visitation will be held at Walker's Funeral home in Mebane from 6 PM to 7 PM Friday, February 24 with the funeral following the visitation. The funeral will be conducted by the Rev. Ed Lowder. The burial will be at Oak Grove Memorial Gardens in Durham at 2:00PM on Saturday, February 25. At other times, the family will be at the home of Jerry and Mazie Blalock at 5609 Harmony Church Road, Efland.
A memorial service will be held at her former church, Dutch Cove Baptist Church, Canton, NC at 2:00PM on Sunday, February 26, 2012, following a visitation at 1PM.
