Obituary of Christine Cates Lockhart

Orange County Hillsborough - Christine (Chris) Cates Lockhart of 1415 Arthur Minnis Road in Hillsborough died February 17th following a brief illness. Mrs. Lockhart was a lifelong member of New Hope Presbyterian Church where she served as Elder and Deacon on several occasions. Early in her working years she served as secretary to Don S. Matheson, Orange County Extension Agent and State Senator. She also served as secretary to the ministers at University Presbyterian Church in Chapel Hill, secretary to J. Maryon "Spike" Saunders, Clarence Whitefield, and Douglas Dibbert, Directors on the UNC General Alumni Association, and for many years served as the "in town" secretary to the late Dr. Frank Porter Graham. Chris Lockhart is survived by two sons: Thomas Long Lockhart of New Mexico and Charles Stanford Lockhart of Hillsborough; four grandchildren: Robert, Carley, Melanie Long and Morgan, and three great-grandchildren, Alexis Hope Lockhart, Sophia Lockhart and Danicka Lockhart; six nieces and four nephews. . The funeral worship service will be held at eleven o'clock Monday, February 20 at New Hope Presbyterian Church, with the Reverend Raymond Mims, Jr. officiating. A reception will follow in the church fellowship hall. Visitation will be 6:30-8:30 PM Sunday in Walker's Funeral Home of Hillsborough.
