Obituary of Marsha Scott Massey

HILLSBOROUGH - Marsha Scott Massey of Hillsborough, NC finished her courageous fight with cancer on January 26, 2012 at her home. Marsha was born on January 15, 1953 in New Orleans, LA to the late Johnnie Kathryn Scott and Roy David Scott. She grew up in Macon, GA where she attended Southwest Macon High School and graduated from Mercer University. Marsha began her working career with K-Mart and worked as an Assistant Store Manager in Georgia and North Carolina. Her career continued as Office Administrator for Maxwell, Freeman, and Beason in Durham, NC and later for The Vernon Law Firm in Burlington, NC from which she retired in 2011. Marsha was the human mother for her beloved dogs; Bogie, Sammie, Duchess and Lonnie. She is survived by her husband: Guy Barrett Massey; sister: Karen Scott Klima and husband, Don, of Amelia Island, FL; cousin Jeffrey Philip Scott and partner, James Rocco of St. Paul, MN; Aunt Edith, Aunt Lib, and Uncle Jack, Aunt Judy and Aunt Pauline; sister-in-law: Frances Massey Jenkins and husband, Tommy of Henderson, NC; brother-in-law: R. Daniel Massey and wife, Liliana of Troy, NY; and Many loving nieces, nephews, and cousins on both sides of the family. The family would like to thank Dr. Andrew Berchuck and his staff at Duke Cancer Center, especially Charlotte Gilbert and Kim Nolte; the nurses and staff of Patient Unit 6300 at Duke Hospital; the nurses and staff of the Duke Oncology Treatment Center; and the nurses and staff of Duke Home Care and Hospice, especially Amy Kramer and Belinda Poteat, for their devoted care and commitment to Marsha. A Memorial Service will be held Saturday, February 4, 2012, at 2:00 PM at St, Matthew's Episcopal Church, Hillsborough NC followed by a reception at the church. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to St. Matthew's Episcopal Church, P.O. Box 628, Hillsborough, NC 27278; the Lynne Cohen Foundation for Ovarian Cancer Research, P.O. Box 7128, Santa Monica, CA 90406; one's local Chapter of The American Cancer Society; or the charity of one's choice. Walker's Funeral Home of Hillsborough, NC is assisting the Massey family.
