Mr. Carroll Brown, 74, of Winston-Salem, formerly of Hillsborough, died Wednesday, December 28, 2011 at Forsyth Medical Center in Winston-Salem. He was born July 10, 1937 in Winnfield, LA, the son of the late, Fred and Vera Howard Brown. Mr. Brown was a 1955 graduate of Hillsborough High School in Hillsborough. He served with the US Army and retired from Lowes Home Improvement following 30 years of service. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his three brothers, Fred, Willis and Curtis and his two sisters, Virginia and Doris. Survivors include his wife of 47 years, Joyce Cates Brown of the home; his brother, Eddie Brown and wife, Shirley of Richmond, VA; his sisters-in-law, Ruth Brown of New Orleans, LA, Vicki Thaxton of Charlotte, Joreen Evans and husband, Richard of Durham and Carolyn Tidwell and husband, Allen of Graham; his special nieces, Vera Braswell and husband, Kyle of Greenville and Lisa Wolfe and fiancé, James of Hillsborough and a number of other nieces and nephews. The funeral service will be conducted Friday at 3:00 PM at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel, Winston-Sallem with Rev. Dan Wilkers officiating. The family will receive friends following the service at the funeral home. A graveside service will be conducted Saturday at 2:00 PM at Walnut Grove United Methodist Church Cemetery in Hurdle Mills with Rev. Stuart Milton officiating. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Meals on Wheels of Senior Services, 2895 Shorefair Drive, Winston-Salem, NC 27105 or Walnut Grove United Methodist Church, 7215 Walnut Grove Church Road, Hurdle Mills, NC 27541. The family would like to extend a special thank you to Dr. Funderburk for his care and friendship through the years; the Palliative Care Unit of Forsyth Medical Center and Dr. Paschold and his staff at Davis Cancer Center.
