Walker Jameson Blakey, 71, of Chapel Hill, North Carolina, died Saturday, September, 24, 2011, of natural causes. We will gather to say goodbye to our beloved Walker on Saturday, October 1, 2011: Visitation at Walker's Funeral Home, 120 West Franklin Street, Chapel Hill, North Carolina, from 2:00 p.m. to 3:30 p.m.; Burial at Chapel Hill Memorial Cemetery, 1721 Legion Road, Chapel Hill, North Carolina, at 4:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, please send a donation to Orange County, North Carolina Special Olympics in memory of Walker Blakey.
Mr. Blakey was born in Beattyville, Kentucky, on July 3, 1940, to the late Frank Trimble and Anne Jameson Blakey. He received an undergraduate degree from Harvard College, a law degree from the Ohio State University, and then did post-doctoral work at Harvard University. As a law professor at the University of North Carolina, he obtained permanent tenure in 1977 and retired in 2010.
He is survived by his brother, Jay Beatty Blakey of Chapel Hill, North Carolina, a sister-in-law, Choi Ling Blakey of Brooklyn, New York, four nieces, four nephews, four great-nephews, and a step-son, Michael Matthysee. In addition to his parents, Mr. Blakey was preceded in death by two brothers, Theodore Becker and Frank Trimble Blakey, Jr.
