Obituary of Christine Ann Egan

Christine Ann Egan, 59, retired editor and economist, died peacefully September 16 at UNC Hospitals in Chapel Hill, North Carolina from complications of cancer.
Ms. Egan was born September 8, 1952 in Berkeley, California where she would later attend the University of California. She graduated in 1974 with a double major in Economics and Journalism. She met her future husband, Bruce, during her freshman year in Chemistry lab. They married in Berkeley at St. Clement's Episcopal Church in 1974 and were together for 37 years.
Ms. Egan was an economist and journalist for the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics in Washington D.C.; was responsible for the management of development opportunities for the UNC-Chapel Hill Library System; and retired from the UNC Press as Manager for Direct Marketing and Advertising in 2009.
Ms. Egan was a lover of nature, enjoying walks on the Mason Farm Preserve in Chapel Hill. She fell in love with the Outer Banks during many summers, one spent with her family managing the Berkeley Center on Ocracoke Island.
Throughout her life she was known for her compassion and sensitivity to the needs of others. She is survived by her husband Bruce of Chapel Hill, her daughter Emily and son-in-law Christian Cloke of Cincinnati, her son John of San Francisco, and her mother Norma Milano of Danville, California.

A memorial service will be held Tuesday, Sept. 20 at 2:00 pm at the Chapel of the Cross in Chapel Hill, North Carolina.
