Katherine Moss Nelson of Chapel Hill died at her residence on September 6, 2011. She was 91.
Kaye was born in Madrid, Iowa to Charles Wesley Moss and Jennie Miles Moss. She earned a B.A. from Cornell College in 1943. After graduating, Kaye worked at the William C. Biddle Friends' Center in Philadelphia and married Robert E. Nelson in Germantown, PA on October 16, 1943.
Kaye and Bob lived for extended periods in Silver Spring, MD and Chappaqua, NY. Kaye was the director of the Pace Little School of Pace University in Pleasantville, NY, where she was a creative and devoted preschool teacher for many years. Later she became professional story teller at the Chappaqua Public Library. In retirement, she and Bob spent many winters in Borrego Springs, California and resided at Carolina Meadows in Chapel Hill, NC where she volunteered at the Health Care Center and hospice.
Kaye is survived by 3 daughters, Karen(Harvey) Steinberg of Midland, MI, Nancy (John) Bello of Rye, NY, Margaret (Wayne) Stauss of Corpus Christi, TX, and a son, Robert(Dawn) Nelson of York, PA. She is further survived by ten grandchildren and three great grand children. She was predeceased by her husband, Bob, in 2006. Kaye will be remembered for her positive energy, wry sense of humor and love of human connections.
A memorial service will be held at Carolina Meadows. Memorial donations may be made to UNC Hospice,
