Virginia Grace Allen Hodson, 1920 - 2011 CHAPEL HILL - Virginia Grace Allen "Ginger" Hodson died Monday, August 22, 2011 at her home in Chapel Hill, NC. She was 90. Born September 13, 1920 in Dillon, SC, Ginger came to Chapel Hill in 1940 to work in her older sister Margaret's flower shop. Shortly thereafter, she met a handsome young Carolina student, her future husband, the late Charles B. Hodson, Sr., of San Antonio, TX. Ginger received her high school diploma from the Dillon (SC) Public School System and attended Winthrop College, Rock Hill, SC. She retired from the University of North Carolina Hospital System after more than thirty years of service as an administrative assistant in Memorial Hospital's Department of Clinical Psychology. She was an active member of the American Legion Women's Auxiliary, assisting her husband who held numerous state and national offices in the American Legion, including North Carolina State Commander in 1972. She and her husband were members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints on Martin Luther King, Jr. Boulevard in Chapel Hill. Family-oriented, giving and generous, Ginger was known for her gentle, calm nature and her fun-loving approach to life's joys and her steady disposition in the face of life's trials. Ginger was preceded in death by her father, Walker Allen, her mother Jeanee Utley, and her step-mother Kate Welch, all of Dillon, SC; Margaret Bethea of Chapel Hill; Ann Powell of Delray Beach, FL; Jane Laney of Columbia, SC; and her husband, Charles B. Hodson, Sr. of Chapel Hill. She is survived by her sister Billie Kate Reeves of Mullins, SC; her sister Lucy Barber of Sumter, SC; her son, Charles Bernard II of Mebane; daughter Vickie Hoff, and husband Don of Chapel Hill. and three grandchildren, April Hoff of St. Petersburg, FL, Jonathon Hoff of Chapel Hill, and Cinnamon Fischer of Chapel Hill. Memorial services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday August 27, 2011 at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, 1050 Martin Luther King, Jr. Boulevard, Chapel Hill. There will be a reception immediately following the service at the Church. She will be laid to rest beside her husband in a later family service.
