Obituary of Evelyn Janet Murdoch

Evelyn J. Murdoch Evelyn Janet Murdoch passed away peacefully at Chapel Hill Rehab Center on Sunday, September 22, 2013. Janet was born in Kwalalumpur, Malaysia on November 29, 1930. She was the only child of Dr. James Wilson Murdoch and Evelyn Audsley, both of British citizenship. She lived in Malaysia until age 9 when she was moved to Perth, Australia to attend girl's bording school. At age 14 she and her family moved back to Bath, England when Janet completed highschool. They came to the US in 1946-47 when her father was appointed as the first Superintendent of Butner State Hospital as a physician. She entered Duke University at age sixteen and obtained a BS in Botany. She followed this with another BS in Botany from Cambridge University, England. Her first job was back in the states at NC Dept. Of Agriculture in Raleigh, NC as a research technician in seed testing. She followed this position as a medical technician in clinical and basic research at UNC Memorial Hospital, Chapel Hill and basic research at Duke Medical Center until 1982. At this juncture in her life, she obtained an accounting degree from Durham Technical Institute and worked for H&R Block for approximately 10 years. Janet retired in 1992. Janet continued for her entire life to love crossword puzzles, Sudoku and was an avid reader. She loved to discuss the British Monarchy and could effortlessly sketch out the chronological reins of the Monarchy dating back to the 1300's! Janet loved cats: they were her house companions. Her cat Rosalie whom she's had over the past 2 years has been placed st her friend's home. She has no known living relatives. She will be missed by all of her fiends whose lives she touched in a special way. A graveside service will be held at Chapel Hill Memorial Cemetery on Monday, October 28, 2013 at 3:00PM and will be officiated by Rev. Clark French.
