Please share a memory of Frances to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Frances Hawkins Day, 93, died on Monday September 19, 2016, at Granville Medical Center in Oxford. Frances was 93 at the time of her death. Frances, also known as Nanny, is survived by one remaining son, Phillip (Cheryl), five grandchildren, Jason, Jonathan (Ashley), Nick, Kaitlyn, & Libby. In addition she is survived by a number of great grandchildren, cousins, and extended family. She is preceded in death by her parents, Carrie Walker Laws & Cyrus Frank Laws, brother Thomas; husbands Frank "Bo" Hawkins & Bailey Day; children Mary, Frank, & Wade Hawkins and one grandchild, Michael. Frances was born July 5 1923, in the Caldwell community of Orange County. She wore many hats and was a tenacious worker. Her work experience was that of Eaton Corporation in Roxboro, Multiflora in Hillsborough, in addition to many others. She grew-up a true country girl and a refined country lady. Her specialty was biscuits and she raised all of her children and the community on some of her wood-oven biscuits. Her yard was always meticulous and she rearranged her house, frequently depending on her mood. "Nanny" as she was known, always had time to talk, but more importantly she had time to listen, especially to her grandkids. Frances certainly endured much pain in her life, losing two husbands and all but one child and losing a grandchild, too early. Still, her glass was always half-full and despite sadness, she managed a smile and a refreshing word to those around her that hurt. Nanny had two very special friends, whom she loved like sisters, Christine McKee and Claudia Riley. She visited with them until her later years, even having weekend getaways as her health would allow. Frances' home was always open and welcoming and heated by love and seasoned firewood. A service of life memorial will be held on Thursday September 22, 2016 at 6Pm with visitation following, at Little River Presbyterian Church. Flowers are acceptable and memorials may be made to Little River Presbyterian Church, 4211 Little River Church Road, Hurdle Mills NC, 27541; Walker's Funeral Home in Hillsborough, is assisting the family.
