Jadwiga "Jay" Kraszeski Socha, 95, of Chapel Hill, NC passed away after a brief illness on December 31, 2015. She was surrounded by her loving family. Jadwiga was born in Bound Brook, NJ to Frank and Antonia Kraszeski, and grew up in North Egremont, and Great Barrington, MA. She graduated from Searles High School.
Prior to her marriage in 1953, Jay worked for the former Smith Paper Company in Lee, MA and the Marian Father's Novitiate in Stockbridge, MA. It was there that she met her husband, Stanley Socha. Devoted to each other, they resided in Stockbridge for 40 years before moving to Chapel Hill, NC to be close to their grandchildren.
Jay leaves her husband of 62 years, Stanley Socha, daughter Susanne Jackson (William) of Chapel Hill, NC, daughter Barbara Perkel (John) of Brookline, MA, son Peter Socha (Nancy), and 2 grandchildren Vanessa and Julia Jackson, both of Durham, NC. Jay also leaves her sister, Euphemia Howe of Bayside NY, brother Eugene Kraszeski of Phoenix, AZ, and many nieces and nephews.
The family would like to thank Visiting Angels, especially Valerie Hooper and Geneva Long for their compassionate assistance, allowing us to keep Mom at home with us. We would also like to thank the Nursing staff of the Medical Progressive Care Unit and the Department of Family Medicine, especially Dr. Eli Tiller at UNC Hospital, Chapel Hill, NC.
A Memorial Mass will be held at St. Thomas More Catholic Church at 10:00 am on Wednesday, January 6, 2016. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St Thomas More Charitable Fund or Habitat for Humanity.
