ORANGE COUNTY HILLSBOROUGH - Frank J. Davis, 93 a lifetime resident of Hillsborough, born February 12, 1920, passed away May 21, 2013, after many years of declining health. He was a charter member of Abundant Life Church, where he served as head of the Doorkeeper Ministry for many years. He retired from the American Tobacco Company after 34 & ½ years. He served in the United States Army in WWII from 1942 until 1945, serving in North Africa, Italy, Germany, Austria, France and took basic training in Ireland with British troops. He was in Battery D, 124 anti-aircraft artillery Gun Battalion under General Omar Bradley. Frank was the son of the late John Archie Davis and Lillie Smith Boggs Davis. He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Helen Gates Berry Davis; 4 sons: Wayne T. Davis (Sylvia) of Alcoa, TN, Grant J. Davis (Linda) of Roxboro, Ronald G. Berry (Joan) of Mebane, and Steven G. Berry (Debbie) of Hillsborough; daughter-in-law, Cheryl W. Davis; 2 granddaughters: Cherie D. Brown (Scotty) of Signal Mtn., TN, and Kristin N. Davis (John) of Roxboro; 3 grandsons: Bart W. Davis of Nashville, TN, K. Michael Davis of New Bern, NC, and Kevin D. Berry of Raleigh; 2 great-grandsons: Scotty IV, Stuart, and Taylor Brown of Signal Mtn., TN and many nieces, nephews and cousins. He is predeceased by his sisters Bessie Boggs Cates, and Belva Grace Boggs Collins, and his brothers Luther Curtis Boggs, Cashe Smith Boggs, John Lewis Davis, and Robert Dossy Davis and 1 son, Kenneth Lewis Davis. Funeral services will be held 2 PM Friday in Abundant Life Church. Burial will be in Hillsborough Town Cemetery. Visitation will be 6:30-8:30 PM Thursday in Walker's Funeral Home of Hillsborough.
