Obituary of Lillie Gertrude Sykes Ashley

Lillie Gertrude Sykes Ashley, 93, formerly of Hillsborough and widow of the late Calvin W. Ashley, stepped into the presence of her Lord and savior Jesus Christ on April 9, 2021. She was predeceased by her parents, the late John Murphy Sykes and Fannie Gertrude Sykes, and by her two sisters, Ann Towell and Christine Wheeley. She is survived by her daughter, Janet Ashley of Raleigh; one niece; and one nephew.

Mrs. Ashley was a loving mother who chose to stay at home to raise her growing daughter. She worked in retail in her younger life and returned to this arena during her middle years. She was a faithful companion to her husband and nurturing mother to her daughter, of whom she was very proud.

Funeral arrangements are being handled by Walker’s in Hillsborough. Visitation will be at 1:00 p.m. on April 13, 2021, with a gravesite service following at 2:00 p.m. at Hillsborough Town Cemetery. The family asks that donations be considered for the Wake County EMS fund.
