Obituary of Deborah (Debbie) Williamson Carver

Deborah (Debbie) Williamson Carver, 68, of Chapel Hill, NC, passed away peacefully at UNC Medical Center on March 25, 2023, surrounded by her loving family.

Debbie was a compassionate, beautiful, and loving wife and mother. She met her husband, Marvin, through a mutual friend. They spent 42 joyful years together traveling, supporting each other, and loving their two precious children, Jeff and Barrett. She treasured listening to Jeff’s radio “surf report” each morning and receiving updates from Barrett about her grand-dog, Luna.

She was a graduate of Peace College, Appalachian State University (bachelor’s degree in Interior Design), and The James Beard Culinary School in New York, New York. She utilized her education and talents by working in interior design and opening her own catering business. 

 She was creative, energetic, poised, and optimistic. It brought her tremendous joy to share her gift of interior design with others. Debbie was a constant pillar of strength, a true ray of sunshine, and embraced “the gold standard” of organization.

She loved the beach, mountains, magnificent skies, finding “hearts” in nature, art, painting, finding sea glass, reading and delicious “Java shakes.” She enjoyed brisk walks and was passionate about protecting and beautifying the environment. Her legacy will be her infectious energy, love of people, service to others and passion for living life to the fullest.

She is survived by her loving husband, Marvin Jefferson Carver III Chapel Hill, NC; son Jeff Carver (Amanda) of Manteo, NC; daughter Barrett Muth (Devin) of Washington, DC; sisters Paula O’Briant (Thad) of Raleigh, NC; Dale Purcell (Mac) of Clinton, NC; Wanda Coleman (Joel) of Clinton, NC; and sister-in-law Linda Precythe Williamson of Clinton, NC; mother-in-law Margaret Wilkins Carver of Durham, NC; brother-in-law Bill Carver (Janet) of Rocky Mount, NC; sisters-in-law Connie Carter (Ken) of Wilmington, NC; Jennett Skipper (Alan) of Raleigh, NC, and numerous nieces and nephews who loved her dearly.

Debbie is reunited in heaven with her father Kermit “DeWitt” Williamson, Sr., mother Margaret Sutton Williamson, brother Kermit DeWitt Williamson, Jr., and father-in-law Marvin Jefferson Carver, Jr. 

A Celebration of life will be held Thursday, March 30, 2023, Hayes Barton Baptist Church, 1800 Glenwood Avenue, Raleigh, NC 27608 at 2:00pm. Reception immediately following the service, Haley Hall.

Debbie and Marvin passionately served on the Board of Visitors at the UNC Lineberger Comprehensive Cancer Center. In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully requests memorials be sent via the following link:
