Patricia Maloney Taylor

Patricia Maloney Taylor was born September 25, 1926 in Chicago, Illinois. She graduated from Sacred Heart Academy and graduated from the University of Michigan in 1949 where she was a member of Women in Communications and Alpha Omicron Pi. While living in Chicago she worked for United Airlines and the Chicago Daily News. She was married to Duane Taylor on June 15, 1950 in Ann Arbor, Michigan. They lived in Kensington, Maryland, Slingerlands, New York, and St. Louis, Missouri, where Pat worked for the Community Chest. They moved to Chapel Hill, NC in 1963 where Pat worked for 26 years in the Department of Physics and Astronomy at the University of North Carolina.  She received the prestigious UNC Chancellor's Award in 1993 for her commitment to the department. Always an avid volunteer, after retiring, Pat continued to give her time and service to the Chapel Hill Swim Club, Cub Scouts, Girl Scouts, PTAs, Carrboro Elementary, and the Inter-Faith Council.  Her long-time dedication to volunteering with the Inter-Faith Council and helping to provide food and housing for those in need led to her being awarded the Governor's Award for Outstanding Volunteer Service in 1998. She was an active member and volunteer at the Newman Catholic Student Center.

In addition to her dedication to her work and volunteer service, Pat’s family and friends were special to her and she was very loved by them. She is remembered and revered by her loved ones for her intellect, tenacity, poise, and pragmatism. She is preceded in death by her husband Duane Taylor, daughter-in-law Wendy Taylor, and son-in-law Mario Saravia Jr. Pat is survived by her children: David N. Taylor and his wife Marion of Greensboro, NC, Eileen T. Saravia of Richmond, VA, Kevin D. Taylor and his wife Anne of Beaufort, SC, James P. Taylor of Carthage, NC, Michael J. Taylor and his wife Terri of Duncanville, TX, Brian G. Taylor and his wife Edie of Chapel Hill, NC, and Anne T. Duckworth of Richmond, VA. She is also survived by 14 grandchildren, and nine great-grandchildren. The family would especially like to thank Arthur Daye, Delores Ingram, Linda Headen, Manita Street, Diana Martinez-Lara, Niesha Clark, and Shama Turrentine for their loyal care.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 AM on Saturday, June 24 at the Newman Catholic Student Center Parrish, located at 218 Pittsboro St., Chapel Hill, NC 27516.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Inter-Faith Council (110 W Main St, Carrboro, NC 27510), The Newman Catholic Student Center (218 Pittsboro St, Chapel Hill, NC), or Heifer International (https://www.heifer.org/).
